With the Waltham Transmitter having completed the switch to digital only TV broadcasting, attention now turns to two of the ‘Big Five’ transmitters.
Sutton Coldfield serving the West Midlands and Emley Moor serving a large area of Yorkshire make a two-stage switchover on Wednesday 7th September and Wednesday 21st September.
At stage one, viewers in the West Midlands and Yorkshire lose analogue BBC 2 forever, followed by BBC1, ITV, C4 and Five with the coming of stage two a fortnight later.
The switch will enable much of the population of these two huge regions access to Freeview and all that it offers as opposed to 4 or 5 analogue channels.
Aerial installers can expect an upturn in trade as late adopters make the switch and existing Freeview viewers carry out the necessary retunes associated with the switch to cope with the multiplex relocations.
