It’s been an exciting few months since I took over from Tim. As you all know, and is mentioned elsewhere, Tim retired after 24 years’ service in the middle of June this year. Although there have been many thanks and appreciation to Tim published already, I do need to add my own personal thanks to him, especially for his help during the handover period, and for being available at the end of the phone if I’ve needed his advice. My early impression about the role is that it will never be disinteresting; given the sheer variety of tasks and other organisations we’re involved with. What I’m aware of though, is that everything we do should be for all members benefit. I really think it’s important that we are really connected to the membership, and that the lines of communication are always open. I’d like members to feel like they want to belong to CAI and appreciate the benefits that come with membership. We’re reviewing all the benefits of membership, whether the ones directly offered by CAI, such as discounted City & Guilds accredited training courses or access to CSCS cards via the CAI Foundation Diploma, or the ones with our existing commercial partners. We’re working on developing new commercial member benefits, such as our new partnership with Utility Aid, we’re always looking for new opportunities to expand the range of benefits we offer. This is either by updating our standards and templates, or looking to introduce new training courses that members can take advantage of, we want to continue to evolve. I’d like to add that I’d always welcome ideas from members for new benefits and partnerships, and assure you that any suggestions will be thoroughly investigated and initiated wherever possible. There have been several member enquiries regarding Sky Q and Sky Q/dSCR in systems training, and I can assure members that we are currently working with Sky to be able to deliver both this winter, and to include Sky Q training in our basic aerial and satellite training course. We’ve recently had several enquiries from retiring members, and from other interested individuals, who wish to remain in touch with the industry, and to receive regular news and updates. We’re, therefore, now launching CAI Circle. A low annual cost membership for individuals who aren’t commercially active in the industry, but who wish to receive E-Connect, Feedback, technical updates, Evolving Connectivity information and other industry news.
