20425 - CAI Feedback Sep2019 COMPLETE v1 lowres

The Health and Safety at Work Act states (paraphrased): It shall be the duty of any person who erects or installs an article that nothing about the way in which it is erected or installed makes it unsafe or a risk to health when properly used And the Electricity at Work Act states: All systems shall at all times be of such construction as to prevent danger As may be necessary to prevent danger, all systems shall be maintained so as to prevent such danger Acts are law and if you do not follow them you could well find yourself in court, especially if somebody is seriously hurt or worse In order to comply with both these Acts you need to comply with ‘BS EN 60728-11, Cable Networks for television signals, sound signals and interactive services - Part 11: Safety’ and our Codes of Practice If you are unsure of the requirements, get yourself on the course At our August Education & Skills meeting we had a very informative presentation regarding inclusivity for people with difficulties such as dyslexia, autism and deafness None of these would necessarily stop an individual from putting up an aerial but could be a challenge for them in learning new tasks We have taken on board what we were told and are adapting our courses, where necessary, to improve them However it was pleasing to see that we were already doing most things correctly During the presentation we realised that this is probably something we could offer to the members as learning is not only done in the classroom and not many of our members are trained teachers So we are investigating the possibility of running a course about dealing with learning difficulties and mental health issues The industry is changing with new technologies and opportunities and we need to take advantage of these by up-skilling Take advantage of training - whether it be technical or administrative – all will help your business grow To book on a course or for further information, go to the website ‘ www.cai.org.uk/index.php/training/book- training ’ or contact Amanda by email, ‘ office@ cai.org.uk ’ The Technical Committee is currently busy rewriting Codes of Practice – no mean feat currently as there are so many conflicting opinions within the industry on levels etc CENELEC, for example, give the maximum level for DAB to be something like 90 dBuV Whilst a DAB receiver would probably be quite happy with this as an input level there is no way you could put this into a multiswitch! With the sell off of 700 MHz band, we are working at rewriting the Interference Mitigation CoP and then moving on to the Electrical Safety Code – busy, busy! As always, CAI will appraise the membership of changes within the industry as and when we have information that we are able to corroborate So this is Les Hampson, signing off, thanks again to all my colleagues who work tirelessly to keep CAI as the leading trade association for our industry Remember it is YOUR association, if you have ideas or feel you can have an input then please contact the office and do make the effort to come to the AGM on Tuesday 3rd December 2019 when we should, hopefully, see 4 new members elected onto the board See you there 14 CAI Feedback Autumn 2019
