20425 - CAI Feedback Sep2019 COMPLETE v1 lowres

Having recently spent a couple of hours trying to re-tune an old cluster leveller (I gave up - respect to those who successfully tune these things on a regular basis…), I was intrigued to be given the opportunity to review the latest programmable filter/launch amplifier from Televes, the AvantX Pro This is one of a range of four models; all cover the FM, DAB and UHF TV bands, while two also have satellite IF capability The model reviewed here is terrestrial only All AvantX models have four separate inputs for the DAB and UHF TV bands, eliminating the need for external diplexers to combine signals from different aerials Up to 32 filters, each 1 to 4 channels wide, can be set up to work with any of these inputs With such a large number of filters available, the best way in most cases will be to allocate a filter for each channel As each filter has its own independent automatic level control (ALC), this is an easy way to get all the desired multiplexes to be at the same level at the output, irrespective of input level Once it’s connected up and powered, the next step is to configure the AvantX There are a number of ways in which this can be done: 1 Use a Televes Universal Programmer; 2 Use a Windows PC with ASuite software (not available at the time of this review, but coming soon); 3 Use an Android smartphone or tablet with ASuite software; 4 Use Autoprogram (this feature is only available on the AvantX Pro) SPONSORED PRODUCT REVIEW: TelevesAvantXPro Peter Barnett, MandercomConsultants Figure 1: The top-of-the-range AvantX Pro with Satellite 74 CAI Feedback Autumn 2019
