May 2018 brings more Freeview changes for southern England

Viewers in parts of southern England will need to retune Freeview from Wednesday 2nd May to restore any missing channels.

Engineering work at the Rowridge (Isle of Wight) transmitter, a number of its relays and the Salisbury transmitter will result in a number of services changing frequencies. As a result of the work, some services will be down overnight before returning on-air during the course of Wednesday. For viewers in the Solent area, receiving directly from the Rowridge transmitter, this change will only affect Freeview HD users. Both standard and high definition channels are affected on some relay transmitters. The move is part of the UK-wide scheme to prepare the 700MHz frequency band for 5G internet services; currently the frequencies are used for Freeview.
When retuning, viewers with older receivers may need to ensure they do a 'first time installation' or 'factory reset', not 'add channels' or 'scan for new channels'. Further information about what to do if retuning fails can be found on the Freeview website.

YouView users, including BT TV, Plusnet TV and TalkTalk TV subscribers are affected, as are EE TV and Now TV Smart Box users in the affected areas.
