| NEWS | New Signal Distribution Specialist ECS Card Now Available
CAI and The Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS) is pleased to announce the launch of the new Signal Distribution Specialist ECS card, specifically designed for professionals holding the CAI (Confederation of Aerial Industries) Foundation Diploma in Signal Reception for Aerial and Satellite specialists. This card is a significant milestone in recognising the specialised skills and expertise required in the field of signal distribution.
Starting today, the Signal Distribution Specialist ECS card is live and available for application. This development comes as a response to the growing need for a dedicated certification pathway that acknowledges the unique qualifications and competencies of those working in the signal distribution sector. An ECS card not only validates the expertise of professionals and their identity, but also ensures that they meet industry standards for health, safety, and proficiency in their occupation.
One of the crucial updates associated with the launch is the cessation of eligibility for the Signal Distribution Specialist role through the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS). Effective from 1st October 2024, the ECS card will be the sole recognised personnel certification scheme for professionals in this field. This change aims to streamline the certification process and align it more closely with the specific requirements of the electrotechnical industry, while allowing time for those who may have already obtained a CITB HSE test, rather than using the more relevant ECS HSE assessment for the electrotechnical industry.
The CAI, as a trade association for audio visual professionals, has provided a diploma for several years for this specialised role, and has recognised ECS as being the appropriate scheme for its members and their employees to best recognise essential skills and knowledge, encourage progression and upskilling.
Professionals interested in obtaining the new ECS card can start the application process immediately through the ECS website in their MyECS account or employers can do so through the Employer Portal. The application process has been designed to be user-friendly and efficient, ensuring that qualified individuals can quickly and easily gain their certification. There is help and guidance, short videos, and FAQs available for support.
To apply, visit the ECS website. Applicants will need to provide evidence of their CAI Diploma or equivalent, and may be required to undergo additional health, safety, and environmental assessment to demonstrate their competency at the required level.
Peter Sealey, Chairman and Senior Executive at the CAI highlighted the benefits of the CAI Diploma for professionals in the aerial and satellite sectors: “The CAI team excels in delivering this training, drawing on decades of experience to equip employees with essential skills and knowledge for success. The CAI Diploma not only improves technical proficiency but also keeps participants at the forefront of industry advancements, setting a standard of excellence and unlocking numerous career opportunities.”
Andy Reakes, Director of Growth and Development at the JIB and ECS, explained “ECS is committed to maintaining high standards and supporting the ongoing professional development of signal distribution specialists. We are pleased to work with the CAI in promoting this route as part of our work to increase competency across the wider electrotechnical sector.”
