Government publishes Media Green Paper and launches consultation on the future of television distribution.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has this morning published its Media Green Paper, Watch this space: a new strategic direction for UK media, setting out the Government’s proposed approach to the future of television, public service media and trusted news.

Freesat’s current range of 4K TV recording boxes has been discontinued, with stock largely unavailable across UK retailers, leaving limited options for consumers seeking new satellite recording devices.

However, A new solution is expected with Manhattan’s upcoming S4-R Freesat recorder, which is due to launch later in April. The device is expected to support multi-channel recording and integrate on-demand services such as BBC iPlayer and ITVX via broadband connectivity.

Silver Voices has launched a public petition calling on Government to commit to protecting terrestrial television delivered via aerial well into the 2040s. It speaks directly to concerns we have all been raising through the Broadcast 2040+ campaign about the risk of audiences being pushed towards internet only TV, particularly older people, those on lower incomes and communities with poor connectivity.
